Roaming Alaska's Inside Passage.

It took over 7 years of planning and coordinating mine and my sister's schedules, before we were able to visit the Southeast portion of Alaska, otherwise known as the inside passage to Alaska.   For those of you who are not as distracted with jobs & life as we are, your planning should not take this long. I have included our itenerary for reference, visit the web page of the Alaska Marine Highway system for current information on conditions and schedules. Also included are a few links we found useful when we made the trip.

This trip only covered the Southeast Alaska section of the ferry system which travels Alaska's Inside Passage, this is the same section covered by the majority of the cruise ships. Since the bulk of the trip is on small protected bodies of water, even those who are prone to seasickenss should enjoy this route.

The Alaska Marine Highway system extends from Bellingham, Washington on the Southeast to Dutch Harbor in the Southwest. It is divided into three regular operational zones and one cross gulf route in the summer months. The zones are Southeast, Southcentral and Southwest, our trip was in the Southeast zone. Visit their web site for more information on visiting Alaska.
